I’ve been on my creativepreneurship journey for some time now, and this newsletter is a way for me to share my knowledge and create value to those who are consistent readers

So BUCKLE UP because I’m going to be sharing lots of mistakes I’ve made so you don’t have to make the same one

3 tips for growing as a creator in 2024

TIP 1: EATING THE FROG

What: The least common denominator for the most successful people is that they do the hard things that need to be done regardless if they feel like doing it or not…

Let me be clear YOU ARE NOT ACTUALLY EATING A FROG🐸

This term was coined by Brain Tracey and has a hidden meaning that I’ve taken to heart and has improved my workflow as a creator

Big picture: It’s about doing the hard things within the first 2-3 hours of the morning🌅

This could be…

  • Working out🏋🏼‍♀️

  • Sending cold outreach emails to brands for colabs🧢

  • Editing videos for clients 🧑‍💻

  • Actually finishing up that book you borrowed from your friend that you said you would give back to them last week📖 couldn’t be me

According to the Skull and Bones Society…

“You should schedule the most difficult tasks first thing in the morning to create momentum. This is because willpower is depleted throughout the day, and doing hard things first can help you keep achieving throughout the day”

Why: Being self-employed and making money as a creative is SO AWESOME, but it also has it’s challenges, such as staying disciplined. Eating the frog is a great reminder to do the hard things first so the rest of the day is smooth sailing💰

Staying disciplined is very challenging, so making the habit of doing the hard things in the morning will go a long way for staying on top of your to do list and getting your work done on time

TIP 2: KNOW YOUR PEOPLE

What: Know who your audience is so you can make content that actually relates to the people engaging with your stuff👍

What do all the top creators have in common??

  • Mr. Beast⚡️

  • Steve will do it🍺

  • DanTDM💎(throwback to the good ol’ minecraft days LOL)

THEY KNOW WHO THEIR PEOPLE ARE

Mr.Beast knows his target demographic is mainly children

Steve will do it knows his target demographic is college frat bros

And DanTDM knows his target demographic is younger kids who love video games

Big picture: All the biggest most successful creators know who their people are, so it’s time for you get to know them as well😉

So how do get to know your audience???

  1. Go to where they hangout online (TikTok, IG, Reddit. etc)💻

  2. Talk with them…

    1. Learn their language/slang

    2. Engage with them by commenting and chatting with them

    3. Figure out their problems and what they need help with

  3. Create content centered around their needs and desires

KEY PHRASE: FIGURE OUT THEIR PROBLEMS

This is important so you can solve your audience’s pain points

It’s all about positioning YOU as the EXPERT so when people have a problem they will come TO YOU to find a solution✅

Why: If you don’t know your people, all the content you make has no real meaning because you don’t know who your target audience is and how you can solve their problems❗️

Adam Davis from Arbox says…

“Content is only king when people actually want to read it”

Content can’t be king when the people you’re making your content for don’t read it because they have no interest in it

Tip 3: KNOW HOW TO PLAY

What: Us creators can often times get so caught up in the business side of being a creator that we forget the reason for why we even started in the first place. Knowing how to “play” as a creator means to know how to have fun and create things out of pure enjoyment rather than making content for money💵

I learned this concept from a guy I met on instagram named Austin…

Follow him on IG @austinfarmer_ he’s got CRAZY COOL travel content 🌴

Ask yourself these questions…

  1. Am I tired of always making content for other people and businesses?

  2. Do I miss making silly videos with my friends just for fun?

  3. Do I feel burnt out making content?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, it could be a sign that you need to pump the breaks a bit on the freelance side of things and or find the time to create content THAT YOU ACTUALLY ENJOY CREATING👀

That could be…

  • A star wars fan film🎥

  • A short surf documentary🏄

  • A visual autobiography about your life up until this point🗺️

Big picture: If you become saturated in the entrepreneurial side of being a creator, you won’t have the time to create content that you actually enjoy creating, so you may get to a point where creating content becomes the bane of your existence💔

Why: Learning how to play as a creator will help you not become burnt out and will give you that dopamine rush you feel when you make something you’re passionate about. Playing allows us to reconnect with our inner child and do things that foster a sense of joy and satisfaction🛝

ACTIONABLE STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TODAY

1️⃣ Ask yourself this exact question “what is one hard thing that I should be doing daily to move myself one step closer to my goals every day?” Write that down and commit to doing that one hard thing every morning. GOBBLE UP THAT FROG🐸

2️⃣ Go to where your audience hangs out. It could be one platform or many. Spend an hour researching accounts that are within your niche. Look at the comments to see what they are saying. This will help you understand their language and pain points. Take the questions that are being asked and make videos out of them. This is a fool proof method to know your audience and never run out of content ideas💡

3️⃣ Take a moment to reflect on how much you’ve been working and how much time you’ve spent making content for yourself and your own enjoyment. If you feel as if the scale has dipped to far to the side of only creating for money, try to balance it out a bit by working on some passion projects. This will ensure that you don’t experience burnout so you can keep creating and making money while doing it🤑

Remember it’s not about how much you know, it’s about what you do with what you know

Implementation is 🔑
